Man offered drugs to enter hotel room and take bags containing RCMP officer’s gear: court
A man who entered a hotel room where an RCMP officer was staying and stole a number of items belonging to the officer later told police he was offered drugs to enter the room and take bags that were on a table.
The details were shared at Jamie Piche’s bail hearing Thursday afternoon in Prince Albert provincial court. He was one of two men charged after the Sept. 2 incident.
Among the items taken from the room were the officer’s gun, a vest, a baton, a conducted energy weapon and several gun magazines. A number of the officer’s personal items were also taken.
Leonard Bear, the other man charged, told police he was looking for items to sell for drugs when he was approached by three strangers on the street who offered him a deal but also threatened to beat him up if he did not what they asked. They then entered the hotel on 38th Street West by way of a back door.
