‘I just wanna apologize’: man accused of stealing RCMP equipment

An RCMP member reported that a firearm and other police equipment had been stolen from a hotel room.

Piche was later arrested at a residence in the 900 block of 2nd Street East. The event was deemed high risk, categorized as a critical incident, and specialized resources were called to assist.

Adults and children safely exited the residence and were assisted by Prince Albert Mobile Crisis.

A search of the hotel area by both Prince Albert Police Service and RCMP members have led to the recovery of many of the stolen items.

Police are working to identify additional suspects and recover any remaining police equipment.

According to a previous statement from the RCMP, the officer was staying at the hotel on 38th Street West “as part of their policing duties.” He discovered the locked room had been broken into and reported the incident to the Prince Albert Police Service.

Among the items taken from the room were an RCMP service pistol, three pistol magazines, two carbine magazines, an RCMP shirt and pepper spray. The officer also had personal belongings taken, as well as a conducted energy device, a radio, a body-worn camera and a police duty jacket.

“Initial review of the incident indicates the officer stored their equipment securely. The suspects broke into a secure location illegally and stole the equipment. The pistol, conducted energy weapon, cartridges, baton and spray were in a locked box,” the RCMP said.
