Red Pheasant Cree Nation artist brings Indigenous designs to Country Music Week
Flashes of lavender purple will be visible at Gather Local Market and throughout Saskatoon during the Canadian Country Music Awards’ Country Music Week, thanks to a local artist’s design.
Chris Chipak, a teacher and Indigenous artist from Red Pheasant Cree Nation who lives in Saskatoon, said he’s excited to be creating more physical art that reflects his home communities.
Chipak designed the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ Indigenous logo in 2024. He also works with students in Saskatoon who “struggled understanding what school was supposed to be and feel like,” building relationships with them to help improve that understanding and their confidence before helping them transition back into a mainstream classroom.
Last year, Chipak painted the Buena Vista Park basketball court with a mural of a bear, done in the shades of colour of the Northern Lights.
