Sharpen the tiny pencils, Ward 8 polls open at 9 am

May 31, 2023 | 8:00 AM

The tiny pencils have been sharpened and the ballots are blank, but not for long as Ward 8 in Prince Albert votes for the first time in 11 years.

Residents of the Ward will have until 8:00 pm to cast their vote for one of the five candidates running to replace long-time city councillor, Ted Zurakowski.

β€œThe last race for the Ward 8 seat was back in 2012, so for the first time in over 10 years, voters will have an opportunity to vote for their Ward 8 council representative. We want to encourage eligible residents in Ward 8 to come out in big numbers and vote for your new councillor,” said Terri Mercier, City Clerk for the City of Prince Albert.

The five candidates in the running are Pam Sukut, Peter Friedrichsen, Darren Soloman, Doug Erickson and Dennis Nowolselsky.

Polls will open at 9:00 am at Arthur Pechey School (2675 – 4th Avenue West) and close at 8:00 pm with a one-hour polling station to be set up at the Victoria Hospital.

People can avoid long waits if they print and fill out the voter registration form ahead of time and then sign them at the school.

Voters need to live in Ward 8 or own assessable land within the ward can vote and will need to bring identification.

The public and candidates are able to wait for results in the foyer at City Hall, starting at 7:30 p.m.
