“I saw this white car ablaze”: Morning commuter startled by vehicle fire

Nov 27, 2019 | 11:53 AM

Prince Albert motorists got quite the show Wednesday morning.

According to an eye-witness account, a vehicle near the intersection of 15th street and 15th Ave. was on fire.

“It was approximately 8:15 [a.m.], as I turned the corner I saw this white car ablaze,” Christopher Ermine said.

He said emergency crews were on scene approximately two and half minutes after he saw the fire.

“The police blocked off the area and the fire crew was there shortly after. As soon as they got there … they gave it a quick blast. It went out and then reignited for one second, then they hit it again and it went out,” Ermine recounted.

Prince Albert Police have seized the vehicle for further investigation.

Speaking to paNOW later today Prince Albert deputy fire chief Alex Paul said the motorist was taking the kids to school and he stalled at the intersection. Someone helped him push the car to the side and he called his wife to pick up the kids.

“In the meantime he phoned for a tow truck to take it to the garage and by the time he got back we were there extinguishing the fire,” Paul said. He figured the fire had something to do with why the motorist stalled in the first place.

“It was maybe smouldering before he left …he just wasn’t aware of it.”
