Prince Albert will soon be the site of a big international softball game featuring an Olympic Bronze Medal team.

As part of their celebration tour, the Canadian Women’s Softball team will play a match in P.A. Thursday night against the Czech Republic. Prince Albert is the second stop on the Saskatchewan tour with Melfort on Wednesday night and Saskatoon on Canada Day.

“It’s just an opportunity for the Women’s program to showcase the talented ladies that they have and bring some exciting ball to Saskatchewan,” said Vice President for PA Minor Softball Ian Litzenberger.

Aside from the Men’s team coming to the city in 2018, Litzenberger acknowledges it’s been a long time since the Women’s team has come by.

“This is truly going to be a treat and we get to see the other side of the spectrum you know focusing a lot on the inside, we have a lot of our membership obviously involved on the ladies’ side. It will be a great opportunity for those young players to get to see what it takes and what the calibre of ball could be at an Olympic level, so it’s gonna be pretty outstanding.”

As for the details of the game, it starts at 6:30 p.m. at Prime Minister’s Park. Tickets are $5 for those under 14 and $10 over 14. Members of the Aces and Astros who show up in their jerseys can watch the game free of charge.

Litzenberger is hoping to see a strong turnout for the game.

“We have a big following of softball in this community and it’s exciting and a unique opportunity that we get to showcase these events so hopefully we can have the community support that and support the ladies and show them what Saskatchewan can do for a fanbase and excitement for softball.”
