Ma Faamii Centre opens in Prince Albert as Métis hub
A new Ma Faamii Centre in Prince Albert is being described as more than an early learning facility, with Métis Nation–Saskatchewan leaders saying the building will serve as a hub for culture, programming, housing supports and community connection.
Sherry McLennan said the centre represents a long-awaited gathering place for Métis citizens in Prince Albert, a city she said has more than 5,000 registered Métis citizens and 17 locals in the region.
“Coming and seeing this in reality now and seeing that we have a place, a place to call home, our Métis home and with this beautiful building,” McLennan said. “It’s basically becoming a Métis community space.”
Prince Albert resident Donny Parenteau led people in singing of the Metis anthem as the flag was raised.
