‘I’m not shocked’: grieving mother responds to murder charge

Standing outside Prince Albert Provincial Court and surrounded by supporters, Danica Moore expressed feelings of relief but also sadness over news a 14-year-old has been charged with the murder of her daughter.

The youth, who appeared in court Friday for the first time on the charge, said nothing beyond confirming pronunciation of his last name. He was remanded to Oct. 21.

“I’m not shocked because this was a person we had suspicions of,” Moore said.

Peyton Flett, 14, was reported missing on June 30 and her remains were found on Aug. 13. A week later, on a day when Peyton should have been celebrating her birthday, a vigil was held on the city’s riverbank near the MMIW monument. Moore was asked by reporters how she felt about the news of the arrest.
