Snowfall warnings in effect for Saskatoon, central Saskatchewan

Dec 28, 2022 | 10:10 AM

While there are no weather warnings in place for northern Saskatchewan, the central part of the province will see much more snow today.

A number of snowfall warnings are in effect from Environment Canada, covering Saskatoon and much of central Saskatchewan.

The warnings, issued early Wednesday morning, said to expect five to 10 cm of snow, as heavy snowfall continues in parts of central Saskatchewan and west-central Manitoba.

The weather warnings covered the areas around Saskatoon, Martensville, Warman, Outlook, Watrous, Hanley, Kamsack, Canora, Humboldt, Wynyard, Wadena, Hudson Bay and Porcupine Plain.

“The snow will gradually taper off through the day on Wednesday and warnings will be ended,” Environment Canada said in a statement.

“Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions.”

According to Saskatchewan’s Highway Hotline, all highways travelling southbound from Prince Albert will have reduced visibility. All roads travelling to North Battleford also have reduced visibility.

According to the city, Saskatoon has already seen 10 centimeres of snowfall since a warning was issued Tuesday afternoon.

The city says more than 50 pieces of heavy equipment are working on the clean-up efforts, noting that some streets are down to one driving lane due to heavy drifting.

Ashley Pugh said she doesn’t mind winter, except for the driving in it.

“Pretty awful,” she chuckled, after getting stuck on her street in the Exhibition neighbourhood Wednesday morning.

“This street never gets plowed, which is understandable, but it does not make it easy for people who just have cars to get down the street. Many of my neighbours get stuck as well. It’s always a struggle.”
