Prince Albert drug seizure results in 12 month sentence

Jul 7, 2022 | 2:00 PM

Wiping away tears, a woman from Pinehouse read a lengthy letter to a judge, describing how drugs destroyed her relationship with her family.

Tricia Natomagan, 36, who appeared by video Thursday at Prince Albert Provincial Court, has received 12 months jail and two years probation for an incident that happened in April.

A traffic stop in Prince Albert would result in police finding seven grams of meth in Natomagan’s purse. Four separate small bags containing meth and cocaine were later found in Natomagan’s bra when she was searched at the Pine Grove Correctional Centre. The total amount of those drugs was 127 grams.

“I have made many mistakes in my life. This one feels the biggest,” Natomagan confessed.

The court heard Natomagan had never been to jail before and was introduced to meth during the pandemic. She quickly became addicted and at times would be away from home and her children for five or six days.

Natomagan, who referred to the time as leading a double life, told the judge she is now committed to being a better mother for her children. She also mentioned plans to help others who are struggling with addictions and to make restitution to the people she hurt.

“The road to recovery is not easy but it’s possible,” she said.

Besides Natomagan’s letter, the judge also received four letters of support for her, including one from the Elizabeth Fry Society.

In addition to her Prince Albert drug charges, Natomagan also entered guilty pleas to two breach-related offences from Saskatoon in which she broke curfew, provided a false name, and was in the company of someone she was not supposed to be with.
