SUPER BOWL LVI

Local football coaches make their Super Bowl picks

American Football fans from across the world are getting ready for the biggest game of the year on Sunday.

The Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals square off in Super Bowl LVI at L.A.’s SoFi Stadium.

Millions of fans are expected to flock to their T.V. screens, bars and pubs to watch the spectacle and that includes those in the local football community.

Curtis Hundeby is the coach of the football team at St. Mary High School. He, like many fans, are looking forward to what should be a big game.

“The Super Bowl is always a lot of fun. Even non-football people usually like it, the halftime show is a big event for some people.”

“It’s nice not having a perennial usual in the game to make things a little more interesting.”

Another football coach who is ecstatic about the match is Joey Hemsworth, coach of the P.A. Bantam River Riders.

“It’s the biggest game of the year for sure. Unless the Riders are in the Grey Cup, this is the biggest game of the year.”

“I’ve kind of been cheering for L.A. a little bit all year. Matt Stafford had some rough years in Detroit and now he’s got his chance to win. Burrow for the Bengals has had a pretty good year and he’s pretty young and he’s exciting to watch. Should be a pretty good game, lots of scoring I would imagine.”

As for who they think will win the Super Bowl, both coaches admit it’s tough as both teams have played incredibly well to get here.

Regardless of the outcome, they just want to see a close, exhilarating game.

“The team I cheer for is out. I really do like Burrow but I’m kind of torn, to be honest,” said Hemsworth, “My heart would love to see the Bengals win but if I had to put actual money down on it, I’d probably bet on the Rams,” added Hundeby.

The Bengals are appearing in the Super Bowl for the third time in their history, the first since 1988. They have yet to win the NFL championship.

Meanwhile, the Rams are playing in their second Super Bowl in the last four seasons. Their only win came 22 years ago in Super Bowl XXXIV when the team was in St. Louis.
