Crown stays charges for alleged drug dealer

Nov 19, 2021 | 2:00 PM

The court proceedings surrounding a drug bust outside Prince Albert last year, are now in limbo following a recent stay of proceedings.

Jordacha Bear, 30, was one of two people charged in Sept. 2020, following the investigation by members of the Prince Albert Police Street Enforcement Team (SET) and the Integrated Crime Reduction Team (ICRT).

She appeared Thursday afternoon at Prince Albert Provincial Court. The Crown’s reasons for staying the charges were not disclosed, and attempts by paNOW to contact the lawyer for further comment have been unsuccessful.

Upon searching the rural area home, police found one litre of gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) – more commonly known as the “date rape drug.” More than 700 grams of methamphetamine was also seized, as well as ammunition, a pair of sawed-off rifles, stolen police-issued body armour and a number of materials associated with drug trafficking.

The co-accused, Jamie Wilson, did not show up for his last scheduled court appearance, and remains on bench warrant status.

Typically a number of factors may play into the decision to stay a person’s charges, including the likelihood of a conviction being reached.

A stay of proceedings does not indicate the case is closed. The Crown does have up to a year to re-commence proceedings.
