Mann Art Gallery launches virtual programming

Staff at the Mann Art Gallery have been posting daily interactive discussions and activities on their social media channels since Friday and are already impressed with the public response.

“I’ve been loving how people are commenting under the videos saying that they liked it, or they’re doing shout-outs to the artists in the video,” Acting Director and Curator Lana Wilson told paNOW.

The gallery began the initiative as a way to stay connected with patrons during their shut down due to COVID-19.

This programming schedule will run until April 3, at which point staff will reevaluate based on public feedback. (Alison Sandstrom/paNOW Staff)

“We wanted a way to maintain that face-to-face personal connection, that close community feeling while we are all social distancing,” Wilson explained.

Wilson sees art as a powerful method of communication that’s especially important during difficult times like those we’re in now.

“Art can remind us that we’re not alone, it can provide something interesting to look forward to when we feel that we’re stuck inside,” she said. “Art helps us know that someone else is out there and feels the same way.”
