Community supper takes aim at food insecurity

Prince Albert residents can get a free healthy meal and learn about food security at an event on Nov. 19th.

The fourth annual Fall Food Fair is hosted by senior nursing students from the University of Saskatchewan and the P.A. food coalition.

As in previous years, the event is free and open to all members of the public.

“That’s where it begins is the healthy food and what you eat,” Fourth-year nursing student Amanda LePage told paNOW.

“It’s how your body heals itself.”

On Tuesday night, LePage and her classmates will be in the kitchen cooking a healthy meal for attendees. There will also be information booths and resources on how to access nutritious food.

LePage said she’s seen the impact of food insecurity firsthand during her hospital placements.

“People coming in have all these problems mainly because some people just can’t afford healthy food. So the resources we offer here can help them gain access to that.”

The event will take place Nov. 19 at the YWCA Wesley Site. Doors open at 5 p.m.
