‘Not guilty’ pleas entered in care home threats case

Nov 14, 2019 | 2:00 PM

The two men accused of threatening staff and residents at a Prince Albert long term care home are maintaining their innocence and will face trial next year.

Ralph Henderson and Ramsay Halkett were charged with uttering threats following an incident at Herb Bassett Home on Sept. 29. At a hearing Thursday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court, defence lawyer Dale Blenner – Hassett entered the not guilty pleas on behalf of both men. He represents Henderson and was acting as an agent for Halkett’s lawyer.

The trial date was soon after set for Feb. 4 at Prince Albert Provincial Court.

At separate hearings in early October, both men were denied bail. The evidence in the case was at that time protected under a publication ban.

However at the time of the incident, a witness had described to paNOW how two men were seen outside the building trying to get in. The woman claimed one of the men was seen waving a knife, and had been heard saying they would kill everyone inside.

A large knife was later recovered by police near the building.
