Annual Wolf Back a Beer extravaganza coming soon

Jan 18, 2016 | 5:33 AM

The Mann Art Gallery is preparing to host one of its biggest fundraisers this week.

Wolf Back a Beer is scheduled to return for its fifth year to raise, what is hoped to be, the final funds needed to bring a massive brass wolf sculpture to the gallery on Jan. 22.

Jesse Campbell, curator for the Mann Art Gallery said they are approximately $15,000 away from their goal to have the funds they need to get the wolf sculpture, created by Saskatchewan sculptor Joe Fafard, to Prince Albert.

“We want this to be our big push to get that final amount, just because first of all, we want to get the statue here and secondly we do need to get it installed and ordered to have the grant money come through,” said Campbell.

Since its beginning in 2011 the annual beer tasting extravaganza event has continued to grow in popularity with attendance being in the hundreds. Campbell said the evening’s festivities provide a fun opportunity for guests to mingle with friends, listen to some great music, eat, and of course taste test a few different types of beer.

This year’s event is set to feature both familiar and new, never before released beers from Black Bridge Brewery in Swift Current, Big Rock Brewery from Calgary, and PABCO from Prince Albert.

Campbell said Wolf Back a Beer gives those that attend the opportunity to taste test both local and more foreign brews.

“There has been a lot of interest in the last few years with craft beer and that is one reason that we wanted to bring up Black Bridge Brewery from Swift Current,” said Campbell. They are relatively new and we feel that it would be great for our locals to be able to talk with the brewery and taste their latest offerings.”

“We also then like to extend our offerings at Wolf Back a Beer to other kinds of regions, maybe bringing in beers that others are not as familiar with. Maybe they don’t necessarily want to purchase a full beer at the liquor board store, but they can just have a little taste and see what they like.”

Tickets for Wolf Back a Beer are now available at the Mann Art Gallery.

Advance tickets for the event are $20, while tickets at the door will be $25. A single ticket will give each guest five tastings and people who would like more can also purchase a full beer.

This year’s live main entertainment will feature local bands The Goats, The O’Kraut Boys and All Mighty Voice.

Food will also be provided from The Trout Café in Prince Albert.

The Wolf Back a Beer festivities will officially begin at 7 p.m. at the E. A. Rawlinson Centre on Jan. 22
