Co-op moving into liquor retail

Sep 5, 2018 | 5:00 PM

Lake Country Co-op is getting into liquor retail although details are slim at this stage.

It has applied to the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) for a Retail Store Stand-Alone permit to sell alcohol at their Marquis Road location at 3600 Fifth Avenue East. It currently hosts a gas bar and convenience store.

paNOW asked the Co-op for more details about their plans but their director of growth and development said it was premature to discuss things publicly.

“The public notice [with SLGA] has to be posted and as of next week we’ll have more information but I don’t want to get ahead of the process,” Geoff German said.

He added the Co-op was going through the legal process but stressed he “didn’t want to be premature on things.”

The public has until next week to contact SLGA with any objections they may have about the Co-op’s Liquor Permit application.

The move to liquor retail is the latest growth opportunity for Lake Country Co-op following last week’s announcement of a partnership with Dairy Queen at their gas bar in Shellbrook.
