Former Montreal Lake Cree Nation Band Manager back in court

Mar 21, 2018 | 5:00 PM

The man who was once the band manager for the Montreal Lake Cree Nation is facing assault charges.

Mark Anthony D’amato is accused of assaulting Eldon Henderson, a councillor for the Cree Nation.

According to a legal summons obtained by paNOW the incident in question allegedly occurred on or around Jan. 12, 2018.

D’amato was originally set to appear in court to face the charges on Feb. 28, however his court date was adjourned until March 21.

Today, legal representation appeared on D’amato’s behalf and requested the case be adjourned until April 12. Lawyers said there was a possibility the matter would be resolved outside of court before April.

D’amato is no stranger to the courts.

In 2007 he went to federal court and sued the then department of Aboriginal Affairs over allegations of misconduct which occurred in 2004 and 2005.

In 2016 he appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court facing charges of assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and uttering threats. Those charges were stayed in the fall of 2016 as the Crown then believed there weren’t reasonable grounds for a conviction.
