Band manager no longer facing assault charges

Montreal Lake Cree Nation’s band manager is no longer facing assault charges.

Charges including assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and uttering threats were stayed against band manager Mark D’Amato at Prince Albert Provincial Court on Thursday, Sept. 8.

The charges stemmed from an alleged incident at his home in the R.M. of Buckland on Jan. 27.

Crown prosecutor Tyrel Taylor said the charges were stayed as the Crown didn’t believe there was a reasonable chance of conviction.

“The evidence just didn’t pan out very well,” he said.

When charges are stayed, it doesn’t mean they have completely been withdrawn from court. They can be revived in court within a year, though it is rare.
