UPDATE: Highway 1 reopens

Traffic is again flowing along the Trans-Canada highway east of Regina

The ministry of highways reopened the section between Balgonie and the Manitoba border late this afternoon after removing numerous semi-trucks that had jackknifed.

Earlier in the day the ministry lifted its travel advisory on many highways around Melfort, Tisdale and Nipawin.

Travel was not recommended for most of the morning because of icy conditions and reduced visibility.

“My truck weighs 30,000 pounds and I was in the ditch ten times yesterday,” said John Thiessen who makes deliveries for Vanhoutte Coffee Services.
