This year’s High School Juried Art Show exhibit features the contributions of 67 students and runs until June 6 at the Mann Art Gallery. Campbell said the event has really grown and she never knows what’s going to be submitted in terms of the subjects the students are exploring or the techniques they are using.

“We have seen that basically from the start of the academic year, the teachers and the students are preparing for this show, so they are putting a lot of thought into what they are going to present and share,” she said.

Alice Rosetti, who attends Carlton Comprehensive Public High School, received the Artistic Innovation Award for her piece named Duality, which features a severed animal and includes the use of wool, glass and beads. She said one can find beauty in anything.

“Even when something is violent and terrible, it can still be beautiful in some way,” she said.

Jorja Hanson-Lemaigre won the Creative Clay Award, which she said was inspired by one of her favourite stories growing up:The Hungry Caterpillar.

“I did a little art piece in kindergarten about it and that painting inspired me to make this,” she said.

At the end of May, Hanson-Lemaigre will travel to Toronto for the Skills Canada national event to compete in the category of Electrical Installations. She said she’s excited to meet other students who share her passion for the trade.
