Winter keeps food bank busy

The cold weather is putting more pressure on the local food bank.

“At supper time we have noticed a lot more people coming in,” said Linda Fiddler, manager of the Prince Albert Share A Meal Food Bank.

“We are running around 80 to 90 people a night for our supper meal.”

In terms of supplies, Fiddler said they are doing okay right now but she was forced to go out and buy more cans of pork and beans and macaroni and cheese.

“We do put out extra coats and stuff here too as well that some people are so kind to bring in and donate to us,” said Fiddler.

She adds they can always use more supplies.

Canned goods, powdered milk, and cereal are some of the preferred items.

There is another way to help. There is one show left of the Boreal Sky Concern Series, a food bank fundraiser show.

Robert O'Neil will be performing with Rich Miller and Evan Swalm. Cathleen Lesperance will be joining them for a new song or two and Matt Remenda will be opening the show with his band.

Tickets are $15 and all money raised goes to the Prince Albert Share A Meal Food Bank. The event is Mar. 13, doors open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30.
