While the insurance policy will cover the home, Lavoie said that doesn’t cover the costs of everything they lost.

“[Nygaard is] really picking and choosing what he can get those kids right now,” said Lavoie.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first bit of tragedy that has fallen over the family.

In 2013 they lost their mother Julie.

“The kids had to sort of regroup from that, they didn’t have a lot from their mom, as memorabilia, and all of that was lost in the fire as well,” said Lavoie. “To go without a mom and now to go without everything is pretty devastating.”

For now the family is living in the rectory, which was next door to their original home, although they can only stay there until the end of April, at which point Lavoie said Nygaard has a plan.

“They were thinking of possibly bringing their camper and parking it in the yard for the summer,” said Lavoie.

She said Nygaard has already begun planning the rebuild of the home, although he’s limited for now because he burned his hands during the fire.

“The plan is to rebuild the house and hopefully rebuild their lives,” said Lavoie. “My husband’s a contractor, so he was asking him for some advice, and he’s got a lot of contracting friends, but he is starting to plan something on the computer and try to figure out a plan he can bring to a draftsman.”

The campaign is hoping to raise the $10,000-cost for the fire department and on top of that Lavoie will be holding a dinner to raise a bit more money as well.

“It’s going to be a supper held at the Rec Centre in Albertville,” said Lavoie.

That event will be held on May 2 with a 5:30 p.m. silent auction and a supper kicking off at 6:30 p.m.
