Wildfire season has begun in the Prince Albert area.

A plume of smoke could be seen billowing from the Nisbet forest about 40 kilometres southwest of Prince Albert, between MacDowall and Duck Lake Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency’s (SPSA) active incidents map, the blaze, named the Lobstick fire, started around 6 p.m. on Monday and is currently about 5 hectares in size. It is considered ‘not contained’ and the cause of the fire is unknown.

A paNOW reporter who was at the scene was told fire crews from Duck Lake, MacDowall, and Wahepton are helping to fight the blaze.
