Wind gusts and risk of frost in Central Saskatchewan

Jun 8, 2019 | 11:09 AM

The weekend is off to a cool and drafty start.

Mike McDonald, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, said the recent weather swing is being caused by a strong low-pressure system in Northern Manitoba.

McDonald explained that temperatures may drop to two to four degrees overnight, eliciting a warning of frost.

“Yes there is a risk of frost. Most areas will stay above freezing, but some frost prone areas, the low lying areas may briefly get close to zero,” McDonald said. “There may be some real patchy frost for about an hour or so.”

The low pressure system in Manitoba is also giving the Prince Albert region a blast of wind.

“We are getting some brisk north-westerly winds gusting from about 40-60 kilometres today. Certainly it’s going to be a breezy afternoon,” McDonald explained.

The weather system won’t hang around for long, as Central Saskatchewan returns to 20 C temperatures by mid-next-week.
