Boon leaving Kamloops-based BC Cattlemen’s Association for new pastures in Saskatchewan

KAMLOOPS — After 17 years at the helm of the BC Cattlemen’s Association, Kevin Boon is moving to new pastures in Saskatchewan.

Boon is set to take over as chief executive officer at the Saskatchewan Cattle Association in November. The longtime industry executive will leave his Kamloops-based position next month, and he told CFJC Today he’s a prairie boy at heart and he was ready for a change.

“Here in B.C., we run around 600,000 head of cattle, over there its 2.1 million cows, so that definitely is a difference in size,” Boon said. “Saskatchewan has an appeal in that they’re rebuilding their association and their structure and that’s what I love. That’s what I thrive on, and so I looked at this as a good opportunity to spend some time out there and make a difference in a different province.”

Boon has more than 40 years of industry experience and he’s also held positions with Alberta Beef Producers, the Canadian Cattle Association, the Beef Information Centre and the Canadian Beef Check-off Agency.
