Veteran driver Jody Jamieson punches his ticket to 2027 world championship

CLINTON, ONT. — Jodie Jamieson will chase a third world driving championship in 2027.

Jamieson, of Guelph, Ont., qualified for the global event by winning the Canadian driving title Sunday at Clinton Raceway. Jamieson accumulated 60 points over eight races to finish just ahead of Stéphane Brosseau of L’Assomption, Que., who had 56 points.

Marc Campbell of Orwell, P.E.I., was third with 54 points. The top-three drivers each won two races with Jamieson posting top-three finishes in three other legs.

The ’27 world event will be held next summer in Canada. Jamieson, who captured global titles in 2001 and 2011, will be joined by Canada’s James MacDonald, a two-time world champion who’ll be the defending champion.

“I didn’t really ever think I’d ever get another chance to represent Canada,” said Jamieson, three times Canada’s top driver who has registered over 9,000 career wins and nearly $160 million in purses. “But listen, I couldn’t be happier.

“I’ll be 50 in November, and I can’t even believe I’m going to be 50. I feel like I’m 25 years old, and I’m as hungry as ever. So it just gets the competitive juices going again, and I’m looking so forward to this time next year for the worlds.”

The opening event of the ’27 world championship will be held Aug. 14, 2027 at Century Downs in Calgary with the second leg going the following day at the Track On 2 in Lacombe, Alta. The competition will then shift to Woodbine Mohawk Park in Campbellville, Ont., on Aug. 16, 2027 before heading to Hippodrome 3R in Trois-Rivières, Que., on Aug. 18.

The competition will conclude Aug. 20 at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino in Charlottetown.
