Defensive lapses leads to Raiders loss in Regina

Dec 18, 2025 | 12:13 AM

The Prince Albert Raiders played their final road game before Christmas on Wednesday in the midst of a snow storm in Regina against the Pats. The Raiders did well in the offensive zone, but a couple defensive slip-ups lead to the Pats taking a 5-4 win.

The Raiders opened the scoring just seconds after their first powerplay ended. Brayden Dube worked the puck into the right corner for Jonah Sivertson, and he made a great move towards the front of the goal but was stopped. Oli Chenier was in front looking for the rebound, and he reached behind him between his own legs to roof the rebounf for his second of the season at 5:52.

The Pats would tie it before the end of the first period after the Raiders had the Pats hemmed in their own zone for a while. The Pats then took the puck down the ice and the Raiders started to change. Caden Brown found the loose puck in the right corner, then played the puck across the slot for Zach Lansard on the opposite wall. Lansard walked to the faceoff dot, then fired a wrist shot to tie the game at 19:18.

In the first minute of the second, the Raiders got a powerplay. Brock Cripps sent the puck out of his zone for Riley Boychuk at the right side of the Pats blueline. He gave a great feed to Daxon Rudolph sneaking through the middle, in through defence, and in alone on goal where he roofed a backhander for his 14th of the season.

The Pats wouldn’t go away and on the powerplay, they scored against at the 12:53 mark. Again it was Zach Lansard, this time his first shot was tipped and stopped, but Lansard tracked the rebound and buried it to tie the game again.

Just 49 seconds later, and the Pats had the lead. Caden Brown took the puck away from the Raiders at the Pats blueline and went in for a breakaway, but Brown’s initial chance was stopped. That caused a scrum at the Raider goal, and that set up Brown for a onetimer off a pass from behind the net to give the Pats the lead at 13:42.

The Raiders were pressing in the final moments of the period, and Riley Boychuk set up Connor Howe on the left side of the slot for a onetimer. The buzzer went just a moment before Howe’s shot hit the back of the net.

That goal Connor Howe scored at the end of the second period would get a near picture perfect recreation in the third. Maddix McCagherty picked up the puck and found Boychuk behind the net, and Boychuk found Howe in the same spot to the left of the slot where he blasted his second of the season to tie the game again at the 4:50 mark.

From there though, the Pats would score the next two. The first one came after a defensive breakdown that gave the Pats a 3-on-1, and the trailing Ephram McNutt was given the puck on the right side, then beat Dimitri Fortin on the short side to take the lead again at 12:50.

At the 17:21 mark, on the powerplay, the Pats would score again. Ellis Mieyette was able to work the puck out of the corner and made a move to the front of the net, tucking the puck fivehole to give the Pats a two goal lead and the eventual game winner.

The Raiders were still shorthanded, but they pulled the goaltender in the final three minutes to try and get the game tied. The newly acquired Brandon Gorzynski set up Justice Christensen for a onetimer at the right point, and Christensen has his seventh of the season with 18:48 played.

FINAL: Raiders 4 – 5 Pats, shots 13-8 Raiders, 38-23 Raiders overall

With his goal, Daxon Rudolph extended his point streak to seven games with 7G-5A, including six straight games with a goal. His 14th goal of the season has him tied for the team lead with Max Heise.

Brock Cripps also picked up a point to extend his point streak to eight games. In that time, the 16-year-old has 1G-7A.

The loss breaks up a five game winning streak for the Raiders. They play one more game before the Christmas break against the Kelowna Rockets on home ice on Friday.
