RM of Buckland making progress after spring flooding damaged roads, bridges
The RM of Buckland is still working its way back from a spring flood season that damaged roads and bridges across the municipality, but Reeve Linda Clavelle said the recovery effort is moving in the right direction.
“We had terrible flooding and many of our roads and a lot of our bridges…we have 11 bridges in the RM…a lot of them were compromised because of the flooding,” Clavelle said.
Clavelle said Buckland is vulnerable in wet years because water moves through the municipality from several directions, including the Garden River on the east side, the Sturgeon River on the west side, and the Spruce River, also known as the Little Red River, from the north.
“We get inundated with water when it’s a wet year,” she said. “Most of the repairs are happening on the east side because of the Garden River, and so we’re just working through them.”
