Investigation underway into mill worker’s death

Operations at the Big River Lumber Mill have grinded to a halt until further notice.

This comes after a worker at the mill was fatally injured Tuesday night doing maintenance work on equipment.

The worker’s name has not been released. 

RCMP have only said the 31-year-old lived in the area with his wife and children.

The mill is owned by Carrier Forest Products.

President Bill Kordyban told paNOW workers at the mill are quite broken up over what happened. 

Grief counsellors will be brought in on Thursday. Investigators with Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) will also be at the mill site.

Kordyban would not go into detail about what happened, explaining he did not want to influence the investigation. He said the company will cooperate fully with OH&S.

There are roughly 100 people employed at the mill.
