Carlton set to battle for NSFL title versus Martensville

Oct 26, 2024 | 9:16 AM

The Carlton Crusaders are looking to be crowned Champions for the first time in the North Sask. Football League (NSFL).

They have a chance to achieve the feat on Saturday on home field when they welcome the Martensville Royals to Max Clunie Field for the first time.

The championship contest is the second since the league’s inception in 2023 and will be the first time either Martensville or Carlton have played in the finals. In the inaugural finals last season, North Battleford prevailed over St. Mary, 35-21.

Looking at the regular season, Carlton claimed their second straight NSFL regular season championship by going a perfect 4-0 yet again while outscoring their opponents, 137-43. They advanced to the finals with a 43-0 win over St. Mary in the semis.

For Martensville, they finished the season second in the standings at 3-1 with their lone loss coming at the hands of Carlton, 24-0. The Royals outscored their opponents 97-66 and made it to the finals by downing North Battleford 28-7 in their semifinal matchup.

The championship contest is set for 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Max Clunie Field in Prince Albert. The winner will be crowned NSFL champions and will advance to the provincial playoffs representing the league.

This season in the semifinals provincial contest, the NSFL champs will faceoff with the 5A winners from Regina, the F.W. Johnson Wildcats. The Wildcats were crowned champions on Thursday night when they defeated the Thom Collegiate Trojans 44-3 at Mosaic Stadium.
