‘Let’s party P.A.’: The Sheepdogs ready to rock the E.A. Rawlinson Centre

Jan 25, 2024 | 6:00 AM

A band that hails from the Prairies of Saskatchewan is bringing their rock and roll tunes to the big stage in Prince Albert.

The platinum-selling and JUNO Award-winning band from Saskatoon will perform at the EA Rawlinson Centre on Jan. 25 as part of its latest tour which only started last week.

The band has already been in Sault. St. Marie, Brandon, and Moose Jaw before coming to P.A.

Frontman for the ban Ewan Currie told paNOW it’s been more than10 years since they’ve performed in the city. Back then they didn’t have the luxury of performing in a big venue like the Rawlinson.

“We played a lot over the years, a lot of bars and places,” Currie said. “I remember playing at a place called Belly Up, which didn’t have a stage and people would be dancing right into my mic stand, they would hit me in the face. Quite a bit of broken glass on the dance floor at the end of the night, kind of good old-fashioned rock shows.”

Since their last performance in P.A., the band has had remarkable success in Canada and across the world. This included performances at renowned festivals like Coachella and Lollapalooza, multiple JUNO nominations and performing at the festivities for the 101st Grey Cup in Regina.

They’ve also performed hundreds of shows in international destinations.

For Currie and his bandmates, playing in a venue like the EA Rawlinson Centre allows them to bring their best sound and energy to the crowd.

“It’s fun to play these like soft seat theatres but when you’re in those like theatres, you think of more like acoustic music or the symphony or a play or something,” he said. “So, it’s fun to come in there with big amps and guitars and really whip it up and rock.”

As for what fans can expect when they pack the arts centre, Currie said they’ll experience the best the Sheepdogs have to offer.

“We’re doing some acoustic stuff and all singing around one mic and so there’s a real variety to the set that we’re going to do. Let’s party P.A.”

The Sheepdogs with special guest Ellen Froese take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
