Comfortable with backs against the wall

Raiders look to steal another one and head back to the Hauser one more time

Apr 29, 2022 | 11:17 AM

The Prince Albert Raiders are 3-3 in win-and-go-home situations so far this season and are in another one for Game 5 against the Winnipeg ICE.

The Raiders have performed with their backs against the wall but will have to do it again at the Wayne Fleming Arena to write another page in their Cinderella story.

Although the Raiders had one of the best head-to-head records against the ICE this regular season at 3-4-1-0, they did most of their damage at the Art Hauser Centre. In Winnipeg, the Raiders won once out of four games, a 4-3 overtime win on Nov. 28.

In fact, the ICE have been close to invincible on home ice. They’ve won all of their last 14 games they’ve played in Winnipeg since a shootout loss on March 2 against the Lethbridge Hurricanes. The ICE also had the best home record in the regular season with a 29-3-1-1 record.

The ICE have only lost twice in a row on three occasions this season, and have yet to lose three or four games in a row this year.

The odds could be against the Raiders, but it’s something they’ve overcome just to get to the post-season. They were in 11th spot for most of the final two months of the season, and woke up with two games remaining in that same spot before winning two critical games.

The Raiders have played their best after being punched in the mouth and cornered against the wall. Raiders goaltender Tikhon Chaika is certainly back after his stellar 26 save performance on Wednesday, and the team is feeling good as they head over to Winnipeg.

Count them out at your own peril.

Check out the call of the game on CKBI with voice of the Raiders Rob Mahon. The game will start at 6 p.m. Saskatchewan time, and pregame coverage will begin at 5:30 p.m.
