Benefit concert for local fire departments after Cloverdale Fire

Jul 2, 2021 | 8:50 AM

Volunteer fire departments in the area are being recognized for their hard work fighting the Cloverdale Fire that burned northeast of Prince Albert in May.

On July 8 to 12 in Meath Park, Jeep Saskatchewan is putting on their third annual Jeepfest. However, this year will be different as organizers added a special event on July 10 called Band Aid, which will be a benefit concert to go towards helping the volunteer fire departments in Garden River and Buckland who helped fight the Cloverdale Fire. They will also donate to the Prince Albert Safe Shelter.

Event organizer James Babcock told paNOW there will be 13 bands playing in the show including country music star Dan Davidson.

“We have friends that are actually in the area that were involved in the fires … We really wanted to give back because after this fire they really learned the extra funding the volunteer fire department really needed after this fire. It was really shocking to them on how much they were lacking in equipment,” he said.

Babcock explained it is a camping event or the public can buy single day passes. On July 9, the day after camper registration, they kick things off with their show n’ shine and a test flex competition as well as the opening of the beer tent. The next day is the concert and an event called Mayhem in the Mud, where vehicles can sign up to go through the mud pit. July 11 is family day where the mud pit will be open for free play. There will be many carnival games and food trucks as well.

In addition to the concert a portion of the money made from Jeepfest will go towards helping the fire departments. Babcock said they also gave them free tickets to attend the concert.

“We’d like them to come up on stage so we can honour them and let them know we appreciate the hard work that they do with very limited gear,” he said. “We’re going to make it a really good day for them as best as we can for them and their family’s and everybody else that can attend. It’s not just Jeeps it’s for everybody, it’s very family oriented.”

For those interested in attending weekend passes can be bought online for $300 which includes camping and gets you into all weekend activities. Day passes range depending on which events you plan on attending and how many people are in your group from $60 to $80.

“We’re greatly appreciative for the support we’ve gotten this year,” he said. “It’s probably our biggest year for sponsorship and we’re just really appreciative for the community support. We hope that we can bring a great event to the local community that everybody can join,” he added.
