One case of COVID-19 identified at Queen Mary Public School

Nov 3, 2020 | 5:12 PM

A case of COVID-19 is being reported at Queen Mary Public School.

In a media release, Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division said it learned of the positive test result this afternoon and communication is being shared with cohorts, connected staff, and the school community.

“The division is hoping the recovery is quick and thorough and we extend our get-well wishes to this member of our school community and offer our support to the surrounding family,” the release continued.

The Health Authority will continue to assess the case as it provides contact tracing and communication to all close contacts. The release stated unless new information comes out, the students and staff involved in the case are required to isolate until the end of Nov. 6. Isolated students will continue learning remotely.

The school will stay open for in-person classes for all students that are not required to isolate. The school’s COVID Response Plan contains several protective measures. The district release said staff at schools remain vigilant in ensuring proper safety measures are in place. The school continues to receive guidance and information from the Saskatchewan Health Authority.

“The division deeply appreciates the support that students, parents and community members have demonstrated, especially as the number of cases in our region climbs,” the release said. “Although there has been no evidence that transmission has occurred within any SRPSD school, we all share responsibility to minimize the risk of COVID transmission. Despite the challenges, it is important that students, families and community members continue to:

  • be diligent in performing the daily health screening and self-monitoring,
  • stay home if ill,
  • call the HealthLine at 811 if exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms,
  • practice proper hand hygiene,
  • maintain physical distancing as much as possible,
  • wear a mask when appropriate, and,
  • do whatever we can to keep each other safe.
