Prince Albert alert

Due to an increased amount of people who have tested positive for the virus in the area, visitation is restricted at Victoria Hospital and long-term care homes, including Herb Bassett Home, Pineview Terrace and Mont St. Joseph Home.

Family members or support people will only be permitted for compassionate reasons. No other visitors are allowed into the facilities at this time and these enhanced restrictions will remain in place at Victoria Hospital and long-term care homes in Prince Albert until further notice.

Chief Provincial Medical Health Officer Dr. Saqib Shahab said contact tracing investigations by Prince Albert public health staff have generated over 100 contacts from six COVID-19 cases.

“And as they are followed up and may require testing, we’ll either be reassured that there isn’t large scale community transmission or understand if that is happening, what are the settings and be able to provide further guidance,” he said.

He added communities or businesses shouldn’t be stigmatized if they are involved in an outbreak of COVID-19.

“COVID is nobody’s fault and it will happen to many of us as we’re out and about. All we need to do is seek testing, cooperate with public health and case contact investigations, follow further direction in terms of staying home,” Shahab said.

EDITOR’S NOTE

This article has been amended, as it originally discussed a “travel advisory” was put in place in the Prince Albert area. Although the SHA has “alerted individuals travelling to and from, and living in, Prince Albert and area of an increase in COVID-19 illnesses in the community,” there is not a travel advisory put in place at this time. This has been corrected.
