A Prince Albert football star will continue his career after high school.

Last week, Carlton standout Tucker Prodaehl put pen to paper with the University of Regina, committing to the Rams program where he will continue playing football and further his education.

Speaking to paNOW after helping Carlton win their third North Sask. Football League championship on Saturday, Prodaehl said he was talking to three other schools, including the University of Alberta, University of Guelph, and the University of Saskatchewan.

“[The U of R] had the most interest; they talked to me for over a year,” explained the Carlton senior, adding he’s going into kinesiology. “They seem like a great program and one of my friends over there is already going there, so might as well join ’em.”

That friend being Zane Litzenberger, who committed to the Rams earlier this year. According to USports stats, the 2026 Prince Albert Male Athlete of the Year hasn’t gotten into a game yet this fall as the Rams sit third in the Canada West standings at 4-4.

Prodaehl is a two-way star and plays either side of the ball, and will be playing for the Rams as either a strong-side linebacker on defence or as a halfback on offence. Carlton football head coach Lindsay Strachan praised the four-year starter.

“We’re proud of all our kids that come and go on to represent us at the next level, and Tucker is no exception of that. He lives and breathes football, and he’s a passionate guy. We’re excited for what he’s going to do at the next level and wish him all the best after this year ends.”

Prodaehl has been a member of the Crusaders football team since 2023 while also representing Carlton on the basketball court. He helped the Cru capture their first-ever provincial championship in football in 2024 and represented the city while playing for the North Saskatchewan Academy and Team Saskatchewan across various divisions.

Speaking about his time at Carlton, Prodaehl said he wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere else.

“It’s been phenomenal. We have probably one of the best coaching staff in the province. Most of them played post-secondary, and then the ones that haven’t have put in a lot of time and effort into us.”

Prodaehl and the Crusaders continue their season on the field later this week in provincial semifinal action, when Carlton welcomes the Bishop James Mahoney (BJM) Saints to Max Clunie Field on Saturday. That game will be a rematch of an exhibition contest from earlier in the season, when BJM took down the Cru, 31-6, in P.A. The Saints and Crusaders also met in the 2024 provincial finals, where Carlton won 35-34.
