Police officer tells Inquest about sweeping changes made after in-custody death
Sweeping changes made by the Prince Albert Police Service following multiple in-custody deaths were outlined in great detail during day two of a coroner’s inquest in Prince Albert.
Saul Laliberte’s death on Nov. 7, 2021 was the last of four deaths between 2018 and 2021.
The others were Ryan Kereliuk, Jordan Norfield and Joseph Bird.
Prior to his death, Laliberte suffered multiple violent seizures. According to testimony heard Monday, the sergeant in charge at the time was responsible for overseeing both street operations and intake. There were also questions raised with respect to the professional conduct of the guard, who was a civilian hired by the police service.
