MLS club teams up with PAYSA for weeklong skills development camp
Youth soccer players in Prince Albert recently had the opportunity to hone their skills with a professional team.
Last week, members with the Vancouver Whitecaps FC made the trip to the Gateway City for their travelling development camp, which was the first time P.A. has ever hosted an event of that kind.
David Cantin, a member of the Prince Albert Youth Soccer Association (PAYSA) board of directors, was the mastermind who brought the Whitecaps camp to the city, and he said the process was a lot easier than he initially thought.
“Within the PAYSA board, we were noticing that there was kind of a hunger for something to happen, especially in the summertime between our seasons. So, I started looking into some more local organizations that would maybe be able to do some camps. We had some positive things for a while and then it always seemed to kind of fall through. I was getting pretty dejected when another member on the board just said, ‘Why don’t you look a little bit further than local and see what happens?’”
