Three arrested, two still wanted in Pelican Narrows shooting

Two suspects have now been arrested in connection with a shooting in Pelican Narrows in August, however, police said two suspects are still at large.

Pelican Narrows RCMP received reports of a shooting around 4:45 a.m. on Linklater Street on Aug. 7. It was determined that a group of men armed with firearms approached a man and a woman at their residence and demanded their keys. Shots were fired and the two residents were injured.

The armed men then fled from the area without stealing the vehicle. The victims were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police monitored the area, found the suspects in a truck, and a chase ensued. Officers found the truck abandoned on Dorion Crescent, and police located three suspects nearby and arrested them, one of which was 24-year old William McKay. The other two men arrested were released.

Warrants were issued, and 25-year-old Tyrese Sewap was arrested, along with a teenage boy who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. However, 18-year old Mikka McCallum and another teenager police have charged in the case are still at large.

Those in custody have been charged with:

  • two counts, aggravated assault, Section 268, Criminal Code;
  • one count, careless use of a firearm, Section 86(1), Criminal Code;
  • one count, dangerous operation of motor vehicle, Section 320.13(1), Criminal Code;
  • two counts, discharge firearm with intent, Section 244.1(b), Criminal Code;
  • one count, pointing a firearm, Section 87(1), Criminal Code
  • one count, possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number, Section 108(1)(a), Criminal Code;
  • one count, possession of a firearm/weapon/device/ammunition in motor vehicle, Section 94(1), Criminal Code;
  • one count, possession of restricted firearm/prohibited weapon with ammunition without license/registration, Section 95(1), Criminal Code;
  • one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88(1), Criminal Code;
  • one count, flight from peace officer, Section 320.17, Criminal Code; and
  • one count, robbery with firearm, Section 344(1)(a), Criminal Code.

McKay made his first court appearance in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Aug.10.
