City looks to double housing construction as soon as possible after adopting new action plan
Prince Albert city council has adopted a housing strategy that aims to nearly double annual housing construction as the city works to address a shortage of affordable homes and prepare for expected growth over the next decade.
The Housing Strategy & Action Plan, adopted during Monday’s council meeting, breaks down the role the city can play and where its limitations are. Mayor Bill Powalinsky said he knows they have some significant hurdles in front of them.
“We know that our demand exceeds our supply right now,” Powalinsky said. “We know that we need a mix of housing, right from emergency housing to supervised or supportive housing, transitional housing, to affordable housing, to mid-level and then the higher-end stuff.”
