Prince Albert shoppers share hopes for Gateway Mall’s future
The future of Gateway Mall is already sparking conversation in Prince Albert, with shoppers sharing their wish lists after the property’s new owner hinted at bringing in major retailers, including mentioning Costco as a possibility.
Gateway Mall officially came under new ownership last week. Owner Lou Alrifai has said he wants to attract big-name businesses that are not currently in Prince Albert, and the mention of Costco has many residents talking about what they would like to see come to the mall.
For some shoppers, the biggest priority is filling the space left behind by the former Sears store with a grocery retailer.
Jason Hilton works at one of the stores in Gateway Mall and said, “A grocery store down there would be nice, like No Frills. Sobeys would be good. I think it’s going to take a big store to fill that space, and I think a grocery store would be good.”
