The Swift Current Legionnaires lived to see another day following their crucial game three win over the Prince Albert Mintos in round one of the Sask. Male AAA Hockey League playoffs on Tuesday.

With their season on the line, the Legionnaires pulled out a 5-2 win in Swift Current to force a game four, but Prince Albert remains in control of the best-of-five series with a 2-1 lead.

The Mintos previously took game one 4-3 in Swift Current on Saturday and game two by the same 4-3 score in Prince Albert on Monday.

Tuesday’s contest saw the Legionnaires jump out to a 2-0 lead midway through the first before the Mintos got on the board while on the powerplay courtesy of captain Van Taylor’s first of the postseason.

Entering the second, Swift Current restored the two-goal lead early while on a man advantage before Connor Rieger scored his second of the game with just over three minutes to go in the frame, making it 4-1. Despite the deficit, the Mintos stayed on the gas and it paid off in the final moments when Kale Margolis scored P.A.’s second powerplay marker of the contest to make it a two-goal game heading into the final twenty minutes.

Unfortunately, the lamps would stay dark for the Mintos in the final frame as Swift Current added another to take game three with a 5-2 victory.

Brady Holtvogt made 29 saves in net for Prince Albert, while Berney Weston put the team on his back and tallied a whopping 51 saves for the Legionnaires’ win.

Entering game four, the Mintos remain on the verge of advancing to the second round while the Legionnaires season still hangs in the balance. Jace Egland’s three assists in Tuesday’s win rockets him into a tie for first for leading playoff scorers with six (3g, 3a), while P.A.’s Margolis sits just a point back with five (2g, 3a) and is in a tie for second.

The series now shifts focus to game four in P.A. on Thursday night, which is set for a 7:00 p.m. puck drop at the Art Hauser Centre.
