Raiders drop final preseason game in Regina

After 1: Raiders 1 – 1 Pats, shots 9-7 Pats

After Raiders defenceman Brock Cripps crashed into the goaltender for goaltender interference, and Mathis Paull threw a few punches for an offsetting roughing call, the Raiders got a 4-on-3 powerplay for almost an entire two minutes. But, the Pats killed it off and as Keets Fawcett left the box, he threw a hit, sent it to Maddox Schultz on a 2-on-1, and Schultz found Liam Pue on the right side who scored to give the Pats the lead at 2:56.

Then at 10:41, Fawcett made another mark on the game with the game winning powerplay goal. Fawcett received a pass on the left side faceoff dot, and he was hit as he took the shot, but still managed to score.

Before the end of the period though, the Raiders added a powerplay tally of their own. Ben Harvey at the left point worked the puck down to the goal line for Owen Corkish, who then passed to the slot. For the fourth time this weekend, McCagherty buried another wrist shot, and the Raiders were back within one goal 12:43 into the second.

After 2: Raiders 2 – 3 Pats, shots 15-7 Pats, 24-15 Pats overall

The Raiders got the pressure going in the third, but they couldn’t find a goal. McCagherty looked like he was about to score the hat trick on a 2-on-1 with Malaki Martin, but Pats goaltender Taylor Tabashniuk made an incredible kick save to keep it out.

The Raiders pulled goaltender Brady Holtvogt near the end, but no one could get one into the net.

FINAL: Raiders 2 – 3 Pats, shots 15-8 Raiders, 32-29 Pats overall

In the overtime where the WHL is still testing new rules in the preseason, Ben Harvey and Maddix McCagherty each picked up assists while setting up Darius Hordal for the onetimer from the slot.

The Raiders are officially done the preseason, and they’ll start the regular season on Friday when they host the Pats in the regular season opener.
