Heavy summer rains blamed for odour, taste issues in city water
After repeated assurances that Prince Albert’s water remains safe to drink, a query by Coun. Darren Solomon has put concerns about the odour, taste and colour of it back on the table at City Hall.
At a council meeting on Aug. 24, Solomon asked several questions, including the type of testing being done, why the issues have remained for so long, and how current levels of compounds compare to historical rates. City staff have now prepared a detailed response.
Council heard at the end of August that the problems were caused by heavy rain, but that the water is tested daily and has remained within safe parameters.
A more detailed report shows levels of two organic compounds increased in the municipal water supply: geosmin and 2-methylisoborneol, or MIB.
