P.A. Police Chief discusses 2024 gun strategy & recent shootings

A recent drive-by shooting has some people in Prince Albert on their toes.

A home on 13 Street W was shot at this past Tuesday but thankfully, no one was hurt.

Police Chief Patrick Nogier told paNOW there have been multiple shootings that targeted homes over the past couple of months. However, he doesn’t believe there’s a risk to public safety.

“If there was any suggestion that we had individuals driving around and randomly shooting at residences, we would be going live with a public advisory and making sure people were well aware of that,” he said.

Nogier wouldn’t go as far as saying that each home was targeted, only explaining that each is under investigation and his team is determined to hold those who committed them accountable.

While firearm incidents are far from the only crime P.A. Police deal with, they continue to be a main focus. Nogier explained they’ve launched a new gun strategy that will help determine which ones have previously been used in crimes.

They’re able to do this thanks to casings left behind.

“We know there’s a forensic capability that allows us to capture information and evidence off of that discharged shell that can point us in the direction of a firearm that was used,” said Nogier.

He explained the recent shooting on 13 Street W is a perfect example as they were able to collect casings left behind by the shooter.

The gun strategy also includes a better job of tracking who has firearms in the community.
