Dec 24, 2023 | 8:00 AM

As 2023 draws to a close, paNOW is taking a look back on the most important and impactful stories of the year, as selected by our reporters and editorial staff.

A third jersey was added to the rafters at the Art Hauser Centre this past fall.

The Prince Albert Raiders retired Dan Hodgson’s number 16 on Nov. 25. Hodgson’s 16 now hangs alongside Dave Manson’s number 4 and Mike Modano’s number 9.

Hodgson was a superstar for the Raiders back in the 1980s. In three seasons wearing green and gold, Hodgson accumulated a mind-boggling 493 points, including 70 goals in the 1984-1985 season. Hodgson helped the Raiders capture the 1985 Memorial Cup alongside current Raiders General Manager Curtis Hunt.

Hodgson said it was an emotional night.

“It was nice to be back on the ice here in Prince Albert, lots of great memories out there. It was nice to look around there, but it’s such an honour to go up [into the rafters] with a few other great players, Modano and Manson,” Hodgson said.

“With the rich history here and all the great players that have come through here, there’s been so many great players and people to look up to. To see all their greatness as they went on to play and to look up there and see that up there – actually I smile every time I look at it, to be honest.”

Hodgson was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. He would go on to play 114 games in the NHL for Toronto and Vancouver.
