P.A. runners set to compete at SHSAA Cross-Country provincials

Long-distance high school runners from across Saskatchewan are heading to Regina this weekend for their shot at provincial gold.

The Sask. High School Athletic Association (SHSAA) cross-country provincials are taking place in the Queen City with Prince Albert and the surrounding communities seeing some local representatives.

Across six age groups (three girls and three boys) and over 600 competitors, P.A.’s St. Mary and Carlton High School as well as PACI will see a combined nine runners at the championships, with five repping the Red and Gold, two donning the Blue and Silver, and two with the Black and Gold.

At Carlton, a trio of boys will be running in the Senior division including Kalan Johnson, Jacob Klassen, and Jesse Quiring. Meanwhile, Braden Bennington and Caleb Klassen will run for the Cru in the Intermediate Boys.

The two competitors at St. Mary are both running on the girls’ side of provincials with one in the Senior division and the other in the Intermediate. Lisette Mourot will be the lone Prince Albert representative on the Senior side while Emily Groves will hold the same title for the Intermediate race.

Finally at PACI, two are set to run in the Junior Girls division including Kira Jobb and Nesslin Mcdonald.

According to the SHSAA website, there are no competitors from Prince Albert schools in the Junior Boys division.

Additionally, other communities from the area are also sending some athletes to Regina for the championships, including Spiritwood, Leask, Rosthern, Hague, Choiceland, Waldheim, Wakaw, Big River, Kinistino, and Shellbrook.

The championships will happen all day Saturday at the Canada Games Athletic Complex near the University of Regina.
