Prince Albert stabbing incidents result in six-month jail sentence

Dec 22, 2022 | 1:00 PM

A man who was charged after a pair of stabbings in Prince Albert last August has received a six-month jail sentence.

Reno Roy Keenatch’s matters were originally scheduled to be spoken to during a preliminary hearing on Wednesday, but instead, the 26-year -old opted to enter guilty pleas to assault with a weapon and breach of conditions.

On Aug.19, police were dispatched to a report of a stabbing at a multi-unit residential building in the 500 block of 28th St. E. A 26-year-old woman was transported to hospital in serious condition.

Later that day, police received a report of a second stabbing and responded to the area of 28th St. E. and Sixth Avenue. This time, a 63-year-old man was taken to hospital.

In connection to the two incidents, Keenatch was initially facing two charges of aggravated assault and one count of breach of probation.

Not guilty pleas were entered in October.

As per discussion in court Wednesday, Keenatch’s assault plea was related to the man. The second charge of aggravated assault was withdrawn.

With credit for time spent in pre-sentence custody, Keenatch was released from custody on Wednesday. He’ll now be on probation for a period of 12 months and cannot possess or own a firearm or explosives for life.

When contacted for comment, the Crown Prosecutor declined.
