Prince Albert police investigating bear spray incidents at summer fair

Aug 9, 2022 | 3:05 PM

Prince Albert police have confirmed two separate bear spray incidents during last week’s summer fair.

The first incident happened during the evening of Thursday, Aug. 4. Police indicated they do have a suspect and are continuing to investigate.

The second reported incident occurred just after midnight on Aug. 6.

There were no further details provided about the incidents. When paNOW contacted Parkland Ambulance to inquire about injuries, a spokesperson said they were not dispatched on either of the two days.

Members with the Proactive Policing Unit, Patrol, PAGC Mentorship Program, and Community Safety Officers were patrolling each day of the fair to ensure safety.

Prince Albert Exhibition executive, Deb Despins, advised paNOW she was not aware of the bear spray incidents, adding she had not received any reports from police.

Despins also explained when the board met on Monday, there was a consensus that everything ran relatively smoothly this year.

Over the course of five days, over 22,000 people came through the entrance gate on the exhibition grounds.
